Canadians are more concerned than ever about their health and wellness and are looking to achieve a balanced diet through healthy lifestyle choices. Our goal is to nourish Canadians with a range of high quality food and beverage products, from simple treats to healthful offerings. We continue to make tremendous strides in transforming our portfolio to create products that fit into healthy, active lifestyles. We have reformulated many of our existing products to reduce total fat, trans fat, saturated fat, sodium and added sugars. In other cases we have increased the whole grain, fruit, fibre and micronutrient content of our products.
We strive to make food and beverage choices easier for consumers by providing easy-to-understand nutrition labelling on all of our products. We also believe that it is our responsibility to address health and nutrition concerns, including obesity, both globally and here in Canada. While there's a lot of debate about how to solve the obesity issue, at PepsiCo Canada we believe that the solution to maintaining a healthy weight is achieving energy balance - the balance between calories consumed and calories burned through physical activity.
We believe in making a difference in the lives of Canadians through comprehensive, multi-faceted efforts that tap into the expertise of many external partners and support both sides of the energy balance equation. PepsiCo Canada is an avid supporter of nutrition research through Canadian organizations like the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research, Canadian Council of Food and Nutrition, and the University of Toronto Program in Food Safety, Nutrition and Regulatory Affairs. We are also a founding participant of the Canadian Children's Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CCFBAI) where we made the commitment in January 2008 to not advertise to children under 12 years of age.
