Pepsi Retro Presents Ton Meunier préféré

Quebecers choose favourite Claude Meunier Pepsi ad from the 1980s

MONTREAL, June 22, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - For nearly a month, Quebecers have been celebrating the return of the Pepsi Retro brand for the summer season by participating in a contest highlighting Claude Meunier's favourite Pepsi ads from the 1980s: Pepsi Retro Presents Ton Meunier préféré on Facebook ( Consumers were also able to follow the conversation on Twitter using the Pepsi Quebec handle (@PepsiQC) and hashtag (#PepsiRetro). The ad with the hockey player being interviewed by Lionel Duval after the game scored the highest number of votes at 75%.

Pepsi Retro packaging features iconic retro graphics dating back to the 1980s. The look is cool, classic and unmistakably vintage. Sweetened with real sugar, Pepsi Retro cola transports new and seasoned Pepsi drinkers to one of the most diverse eras of the last century.

"Thousands of Quebecers voted for their favourite commercial over the past few weeks and celebrated the fun of the 1980s with Claude Meunier and his famous Pepsi advertisements! We invite Quebecers to enjoy a Pepsi Retro cola as they view the winning ad, as well as the other ones selected on," said Robb Hadley, National Marketing Director, PepsiCo Beverages Canada.

Quebec consumers were invited to view five of Claude Meunier's most popular television commercials from the 1980s and vote for their favourite one. With every vote cast, the Pepsi Retro brand donates 80 cents to the Quebec charity Fondation Tel-jeunes (which provides funds to LigneParents and Tel-jeunes) and they are pleased to be giving them a cheque for $5,000.

"I am thrilled that the ad of the hockey player with Lionel Duval won over the public because it's one of my favourites", explains Claude Meunier, beloved Quebec comedian and actor, and long-time member of the Pepsi family. "We had a tremendous amount of fun while shooting that commercial because Lionel Duval couldn't keep a straight face even though he had been one of the most serious sports commentators of that era. It's a commercial that brings back very fond memories. I would also like to thank those who voted because it allowed us to raise funds for the Fondation Tel-jeunes which provides funds to LigneParents where I have also been a spokesperson for several years."

Pepsi Retro vintage packaging is based on a replica of a Pepsi can from the 1980s. The look is cool, classic, strong, simple and unmistakably vintage. Consumers will find Pepsi Retro beverages in stores coast-to-coast throughout the summer season in 355 mL cans, 12-pack cases and 591 mL bottles. It will be here for a limited time only, so Pepsi Retro fans will need to pick it up before it's all gone!
