PepsiCo Foods Canada (PFC) has been focused on reducing the waste sent to landfill. Our goal is to reach near zero landfill (NZLF) status (which we define as sending less than 1% of manufacturing waste to landfill) in all of our manufacturing and distribution facilities. The program was founded on three pillars: (1) to reduce/eliminate the use of non-reusable and non-recyclable materials in manufacturing plants; (2) to reduce waste to landfill from operations to zero; and (3) to transform waste disposal costs into material revenues.

To date, PFC has had tremendous success with its Journey to Near Zero Landfill program. PFC is currently diverting more than 99% of its operational waste away from landfill sites. This is equivalent to more than 60,000 tonnes of waste diverted away from landfills annually. The following PFC manufacturing sites are leaders in our Journey to Near Zero Landfill and are close to maintaining near absolute zero landfill status:

  • Peterborough, Ontario
  • Cambridge, Ontario
  • Taber, Alberta
